IMPHAL, March 10: In what could be termed as unbecoming of a high ranking government officer, the additional commissioner of income tax, Imphal range, allegedly manhandled a resident at Langol housing complex creating panic amongst the residents nearby.
The incident occurred last night around 8:30 pm when the additional commissioner identified as one L.D Mate, with about 8 accomplice barged into the quarter of one Seiboi Mate, 40, s/o Ngampu of Tuisom Village, under Saikul sub-division at present staying at a quarter at Langol housing complex type II.
Henei (younger sister of Seiboi) revealed that during the time of the incident his brother was not at home. She claimed that the commissioner without any warning barged in the house by knocking down the gate and started asking for Seiboi. The addl commissioner even took out his pistol and started searching all over the house for Seiboi and moreover ransacked properties inside the house, said Henei further alleging that the addl commissioner was under the influence of alcohol.
Before leaving the place the commissioner also shouted at the area implying Seiboi as a rogue.
The addl commissioner and Seiboi are said to be distant relatives nevertheless the motive behind the act is not known to Henei and as per her knowledge there has been no misunderstanding or such between the two before last night’s incident.
Heinei further claimed that this was not the first time, claiming that a similar incident had occurred during the month of September last year.
In the meantime, a neighbour of Seiboi Mate strongly condemned the incident. She said that the whole locality panicked hearing the loud banging noise on the tin gates. Her children, who were studying during the time of the incident, started crying out of fear. The addl commissioner even shouted at the area and left, added the neighbour.What ever the reason between the parties, it can be solved through peaceful means she added before terming the incident as mindless act and unbecoming of a high ranking officer.
On the other hand, Seiboi who is said to an active worker of MLA Doukhomang, was arrested by the Lamphel police this afternoon around 1pm following a complain lodge by the additional commissioner charging that Seiboi has threatened him.
