IMPHAL, April 27: In a show of solidarity and support to the 10 years long fast unto death movement of Irom Chanu Sharmila in her fight against AFSPA, 1958, the North East Students’ Organization (NESO) has launched a mass solidarity movement in the entire North Eastern region since yesterday informed NESO.
A team of the students’ organization led by it’s chairman Dr Samujal arrived here in Imphal today and met Sharmila at around 11 am at the JNIMS security ward where the AFSPA crusader is presently kept under judicial custody.
“You are fighting for us, the North East Student Organisation (NESO) is behind you, you are not alone, we will continue to support you” said the visiting NESO delegates while meeting Sharmila.
The other delegates includes Secy. General Gumjum Haider, (Advisor All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union), and with the present of L. Punte, vice chairman NESO (Advisor Mizo Zaul Paul, Mizoram),Thokchom Suresh, President AMSU Manipur, Hanseng Sangma, Garo Student Union, Meghalaya, Samuel Jawra and Hembert Kharmih of Khasi Student Union, Meghalaya,Sangkar Prasad Ray and Tarpan Kumar Gogoi of All Assam Students’ Union Assam, Upendra Dev Varma, Tripura Students’ Federation, Tripura meet Sharmila and give traditional gift as a token of love from the side of NESO.
During the meeting with the representatives of the regional student body, Sharmila expressed her dissent over the refusal of the Chief Minister of Manipur on her request to be granted a meeting with him citing a busy schedule.
‘And in protest against the refusal of the government she had pulled out the nose feeding tube herself however she was forcibly fed again by the security’, sharmila told the visiting team.
She also asserted before the team that both the central and the state government are crazy over power and politics and that they have no interest whatsoever for the general public.
