IMPHAL, May 2: The 10 days long Chinjak Festival (II) International organized by the Innovative Youth Society in association with the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Manipur has concluded yesterday at the Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen with some 3000 odd visitors converging for one last bite.
With Tourism Commissioner KK Shhetri presiding the formal closing function yesterday afternoon, Kh Athouba, Managing Director of the festival gave report on the conduct of the Chinjak Festival-II International and mentioned that during the 10 days long event was participated by four International communities and various local communities of the state producing and promoting 22 International menus and 140 local traditional menus.
Amazingly 35000 visitors witnessed the event and tasted 100 varieties of food items. The overall business record reached 7.5 lakhs in the ten days time, which is 83.333 thousand at an average sale record, he added.
It may be mentioned that, during the festival, some of the most popular food were the Korean- Kimchi (Fermented Vegetable) and Kimbab (Rice roll), Thai-Tomyam (Gren Vegetable) and Kow Pad (Fish fried rice), Chinese-Pa Nung (Steam Fish), Jub Chai (Mix Vegetable), Kap Pro Pra (Soup) and Tibetan-Lambhi (Steam Flour) and Cold Thukpa from the International menu and among the local foods every visitors must have taken a bite of the Kakching-Chak hao matum, Nambol- Tharoi, Bashikhong- Khajing and Kongreng.
Among the beverages Ukhrul fermented juice of heigru, Heitroi and Laphoi, Andro Pukyu/Waiyu were the common favorite of all the visitors from all age groups.
On the other hand, the best participant of the festival Award was bagged by Yendrenbam Jamini Devi of Kakching Khunyai Leikai who produced Chak Hao Matum, Chak Hao Kher and Moom Kher. She was encouraged with a cash Award of Rs.2000 and a certificate of merit.
Later the state Tourism Commissioner in his speech invited all the International participants to come back again and take part in the coming Chinjak festival and Manipur Sangai festival, 2011 which is likely to held during the month of October and November this year with this expression he closed the festival formally.
