TAMENGLONG, May 17: A three day long Public Information Campaign on the flagship programmes of the Central Government began today at Indoor stadium Tamenglong, with Khangthuanang Panmei, MLA and vice chairman (HAC), R Taleping, freedom fighter and K Panmei, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong as chief guest, guest of honour and president of the function respectively.
In a significant remark, the campaign begins with candle lighting by dignitaries followed by cutting of red ribbon and inspection.
As many as 16 exhibition stalls from various government departments including Shelf Help Groups displaying their activities and the programmes taken up for the welfare of the public during the campaign.
Speaking as chief guest Khangthuanang Panmei, vice chairman HAC said Tamenglong district is known for its backwardness but the district has many potentials in agriculture, horticulture sectors, etc. In the name of most backwardness district, a seminar has been organized wherein union home secretary GK Pilai attended and released development packages but even then the district is still backward, he said.
One of the main reasons may be due to lack of information that has taken place in the district. The general publics are not aware of the development works that has taken place in the district, he said.
Further, he said Tamenglong district can be change to commercial centre as the district was surrounded with other states like Nagaland and Assam.
He also appeals all participants of the campaign to pass the information and message about the campaign so that what the development works taken up in the district may fully implemented.
In his speech as guest of honour, freedom fighter R Taleping said there is no other love greater then what the government of India has done for us. The government of India has made the people to construct the connectivity where they (government of India) had also given wages to the people, he said. He also urged all to march ahead to peace building and development works in the region.
In his presidential speech K Panmei, IAS, DC Tamenglong said that the awareness campaign being launched today is very important for the people of Tamenglong. He said people`™s involvement in the development works will help in the implementation of the schemes from the grass root level.
He also urged all to participate fully in the campaign and get necessary information so that the development funds may be properly implemented so as to fulfill and satisfy the district administration, state government and central government.
In her welcome and key note address Premlata Loitam, MCO PIB Imphal said that the main objective of the campaign was to create awareness among the public on the flagship programmes like National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Mid Day meal, National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS), Rural Road (PMGSY), Rural Drinking Water Supply, Rural Housing (Indira Awaj Yojna), Right to Information Act, Rural Telephony, Total Sanitation Campaign, Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS), etc.
The campaign was organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Imphal in collaboration with All India Radio (AIR), Door Darshan Kendra (DDK), Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Directorate of Filed Publicity (DFP), Song and Drama Division (S&DD) with different departments, Government of Manipur and Government of India, ADC, Churches, NGOs, clubs, SHGs of Tamenglong etc. under the sponsorship of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, New Delhi.
