IMPHAL, May 29: The first day of counting of votes for the recently held Imphal Municipal elections to the various wards for the 27 councilors and 54 Ward Development Committee which was conducted on May 25 was conducted peacefully today.
The counting of votes started from this morning at 8 am at the concerned offices of RO of Imphal East district at Porompat DC Office and Lamphel DC office for Imphal West District under tight security arrangement.
According to official sources from the concerned ROs, the Indian National Congress is leading in both Imphal East and Imphal West district with 10 INC candidates already declared as elected councilors from the 16 wards declared till the completion of counting session for today at 8 pm.
The source further mentioned that of the seven wards in Imphal East, five has been declared with the INC bagging three of the seats.
According to the source, A Nimai Sharma (INC) was elected as councilor form ward No. 18 and K Dilip Singh and Wahengbam Tombi Singh as members of the WDC from the same ward.
Further BJP Candidate Yumlembam Tatikanta was also declared elected as councilor of ward No-19 with a margin of 250 votes from his nearest rival candidate and it is declared that Thongam Gibind Singh and Phanjoubam Chidananda Sigh were also declared elected as members of WDC for the said ward.
In ward No- 20 INC candidate Loukrakpam Tombi Devi was declared elected as councilor and Khuraijam Bhogen Singh and Huidrom Noren were also declared elected as members of WDC for the same ward.
Further INC candidate Ksh. Umesh Singh of Ward No. 21 was also declared elected by the RO after he got a total votes of 2894 while Dayanand and P Suraj were also declared elected as members of WDC after they secured total votes of 1473 and 1082 respectively.
Beside an Independent candidate identified as Ngaminlein Kipgen was declared elected from Ward No. 22 with a total of 3399 votes the official report added.
On the other hand for Imphal west district, Soraisam Binarani Devi an INC candidate was declared elected as councilor for Ward No.I along with Yendrembam Premila Devi and Ajiy Panmei as member of WDC of the ward.
Th Purnachandra an Independent candidate was declared elected as councilor of Ward No-2 along with Th Suresh and Ngangom Dhananjoy as members of WDC of the ward.
While Ph Memchatombi a candidate of NCP from ward No. 11 was declared elected by the RO Imphal West after the counting of votes along with Mongjam Arunkumar and L Shantikumar as members of WDC for the said ward after they secured their maximum votes during the counting today.
Further, Hijam Nutunchandra an Independent candidate was declared elected as councilor of Ward No 3 by the RO Imphal West after he secured the highest votes along with Thangjam Manimala and Khumbongmayum Gambhir as members of WDC for the said ward after they secured the highest votes in the same election to the ward recently.
In the meantime, N Raghumani Singh an INC candidate was also declared elected officially today as councilor of Ward No.13 along with Th Jephry Meitei and H Shantikumar as member of WDC of the ward .
Somon Rita Devi an INC candidate was further declared elected by the RO Imphal West this afternoon as councilor of Ward No. 13 along with Laimayum Ranjit Sharma and RK Bhubaneshore as members of WDC of the ward and another INC candidate Phurailtpam Baleshore Sharma was declared elected as councilor of Ward No.5 along with Hajarimayum Bobby Sharma and Santosh Nameirakpam as members of the WDC of the said ward after they secure maximum votes during the late night counting at the Lamphel DC office.
The counting of votes for the remaining 20 constituencies will continue tomorrow morning starting from 8am at the concerned DC complexes of Imphal East at Porompat and DC office complex at Laphelpat.
