Seven day deadline set to meet demands in child killing; JAC wants Rs 5 lakh compensation

IMPHAL, May 19: The public of Ningthoukhong area today came out to staged a public meeting over the controversy surrounding the death of four years old Thiyam Roberoy s/o Th. Rockey of Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No-4, at the campus of Ibudhou Thangarel Laishang at Ninthoukhong Kha Khunou, where the dead body of the boy was found hanged with both his hands and legs tied up.

Further decrying the killing of the boy, a JAC formed against the brutal killing of the boy and the public of the area today decided that they will not accept the dead body of the boy until the government produces the culprits and has set a seven days deadline for the government to produced the culprits.

The public has further resolved to demand Rs.5 lakhs as compensation for the bereaved family.

The JAC further stated that no understanding on the issue between the bereaved family and the government can be brought without the knowledge of the JAC, and further appealed to the people and family members of the boy to support every step taken up by the JAC regarding the killing of the boy.

The meeting further resolved that in case of failure of the state government to fulfill the JAC`™s demand before the end of the seven days deadline, the JAC with help from the general public will undertake various forms of agitation.

It was also decided to submit the various resolutions passed during the public meeting to the Chief Minister as a memorandum at the earliest.

In yet another decision taken during the meeting, the JAC has appealed to the culprits to surrender before the JAC or the police before the end of the deadline and that failure to do so, the culprits including their family members will be expelled from the locality.

Meanwhile a post-mortem was conducted on the dead body of Roberoy at the RIMS morgue today, which was accepted by the bereaved family so as to get a real clue of the crime, however the JAC has decided not to receive the dead body until its demands are met by the government.

It may be mentioned that 4 years old, Thiyam Roberoy alias Ton Singh s/o Th Rockey Singh of Ninghthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No. 4 was found hanged under suspicious condition at the compound of Ibudhou Thangarel Temple yesterday afternoon around 2 pm. The suspicious nature of the boy`™s dead was noticed after both his hands and legs were found tied with ropes and hung up after murder.

In the meantime, Bishnupur police as part of their investigation of the murder case, has arrested some suspected persons but the identities of the arrested suspects were not disclosed officially today.

Meanwhile the Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) has condemned the inhumane torture and murder of four year old child Thiyam Raberoy who was hanged by unknown persons on May 18 at the sacred site of Ibudhou Thangarel in Ningthoukhong Kha- Khunou, Bishenpur district, said a press release by the president of CORE.

The release further urged the home department of the Governemnt of Manipur to get its act together and make secure the lives of the citizens of the state and also urged to take the issue of crime against children and women very seriously. The Manipur Police must leave no stone unturned to investigate crime efficiently and dutifully, book the culprits and treat them according to the established law of the land, the release added.
