IMPHAL May 11: To revive and promote the folk culture of the state, the Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) is all set to host the ‘All Manipur Folk Drama Festival 2011’beginning May 15.
Addressing mediapersons at the MDU hall today, coordinator of the festival Lamabam Gojen said that due to globalization, the traditional folk arts have eroded and new forms of theatre have emerged, the need to preserve the traditional folk arts is important as the history of the state is associated with it.
He states that the festival is organized under the financial assistance of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and ten theatre groups from different parts of the state will take part in the festival.
The folk plays namely Khutchup Cheimiyang, Uchek Langmei,Kao Phaba, Chaoba Thonglen, Haorang Leisha Saphabee, Leima Yangdoubi, Khamba Khamnu, Shari Wasak, Koubrugi Mamomloi, Leirol are plays based on the historical folklore of the state and will be shown at the MDU auditorium, Yaiskul Police Lane. The festival will conclude on May 24.
