IMPHAL, July 27: Heavy exchange of fire reportedly took placed between personnel of 12 Assam Rifles and a group of well equipped cadres of the proscribed PLA at the border village of Nambisa in Ukhrul district, this morning at around 9:30 am, however there could no confirmation of any casualties on both sides.
According to a reliable source, troops of 12 AR on getting specific information of frequent trespassing by different valley based UG cadres through the border village of Nambisa since the last two days, had launched active operations around the area since yesterday evening.
The source further maintained that, this moning at around 9:30 am the troops came under attacked from well equipped under ground cadres suspected to be PLA cadres who were trying to intrude into the Indian side of the border. The troops retaliated which resulted in a gun battle lasting till noon today.
Meanwhile, even though official reports have claimed that there have been no casualties on both sides during the encounter, an unofficial report has reported undisclosed numbers of casualties on the side of the security forces.
Another source has further mentioned that, with the arrival of security forces into their village,Nambasi villagers had started leaving their homes for the neighbouring villages with apprehension of clash between UG groups and the security forces.
On the other hand, according to an official source, since the encounter happened in the border areas, there has been total shutdown of communication with the involved AR authorities as a result the exact casualty from the encounter could not be established till late night, the source added.
