IMPHAL, July 1: The president of Manipur People’s Party (MPP), Dr Nimaichand Luwang has slammed the statement of Congress leaders who had described the state as “developed” in a recent public meeting held at Mapal Kangjeibung.
Addressing a press conference today at the office of MPP, Dr Nimaichand stated that the Congress leaders had falsely termed the state as developed. There are no visible signs of development in the state except for some buildings and markets raised in the vicinity of Imphal city.
The National Highway No. 2 (formerly NH-39) and National Highway No. 37 (formerly 53) are still in a deplorable condition even if the Congress party is in power for more than nine years. There is no development in the power sector, health, education, transport and communication of the whole state, he noted.
The MPP president further questioned the utility of Khuga Dam which was inaugurated by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, He said that the dam has failed to provide any benefit to the people of the state.
All these are testimonies for the failure of the Congress government despite their claim for having utmost development in the state, Nimaichand asserted.
The MPP also found out irregularities in the implementation of MGNREGS in the state after it filed an application under the RTI Act. Crores of rupees have been laundered by the government officials from the MGNREGS fund of Bishnupur district, he said.
Dr Nimaichand further demanded a CBI probe into the alleged scam of MGNREGS stating that the party will soon file a petition to the ministry of rural development, state chief secretary and state vigilance department. He also stated that if the concerned authority fails to take action against the defaulters, the party will take legal help to probe the alleged scams of MGNREGS.
A PIL has also been filed by the MPP at the Gauhati High Court, Imphal Bench, demanding a CBI probe into the irregularities of public distribution system in the state.
