IMPHAL, July 9: An official team comprising of state chief electoral officer and principal secretary of IFCD, PC Lawmkunga, IFCD commissioner, H Imocha, chief engineer of IFCD, Indramani and other officials today inspected the inundated office complex of state chief electoral officer and other surrounding areas of Lamphelpat.

Speaking to media persons during the inspection, IFCD commissioner Imocha said that Lamphelpat, being a low-lying area, is prone to frequent floods whenever there is continuous downpour.

With the decrease in the water level of Nambul River, the Shamushang Canal will also be opened up to facilitate easy drain out from the inundated areas of Lamphelpat. Four water pumps are currently used to drain out the flood water, Imocha noted.

The state chief electoral officer, PC Lawmkunga maintained that the election department is keenly working on to ensure the completion of pre-election proceedings timely. Normal works can be resumed very shortly, he added.

It may be mentioned that the preparatory steps for rationalization of polling stations, appointment of Booth Level Officer (BLOs) and conducting orientation trainings for the BLOs have started since June 20. But the inundation of CEO’s office complex at Lamphelpat for the last 14 days has disturbed normal functioning of the department.
