IMPHAL, July 15: State unit of the Popular Front of India has stated that it fully endorsed the proposed nation-wide protest called by the organization for implementation of reservation policy for the Muslim community and will full participate in it.
A statement issued by the PFI state unit informed that the decision of the nation-wide protest was taken during its national executive meeting held at Kolkota, noting that the Justice Ragunath Mishra commission’s recommendation of allotting 10 percent reservation for the Muslim minority of the total 15 percent reservation provided to the minority communities in the country.
It lamented that despite the recommendation being tabled at parliament in December 2009, the UPA government has failed to take any visible measures to convert it into reality. Moreover, no political parties are showing any interest to pursue the matter with the government, it said.
It further informed that the executing meeting unanimously adopted three resolutions. Firstly, it called on various civil organizations, human rights activists and minority organizations to discuss the Prevention of Community and Targeted Violence Bill, 2011 before the bill is passed.
It further resolved to urge the government to make immediate amendment of the wafk Act and check all items that come under the wafk before handing over. At the same time, it urged the government to pass the stronger version of the Lokpal Bill.
