IMPHAL, July 15: At least two militants and four illegal Myanmarese have been arrested by security forces in separate operations since yesterday.
In the first incident, a combined team of Thoubal district police commandos and 27 AR arrested a cadre of the proscribed PLA yesterday around 11:30 pm while conducting a search operation at Serou Lamkhai.
A statement issued superintendent of police, Thoubal district, identified the cadre as Mayanglambam Ibomcha alias Nanao, 22, s/o M. Jadumani Singh of Ngaikhong Leikai Kakching Khunou.
On verification, the individual revealed that he is an active member of PLA and trained in the year 2007 at Myanmar and given army No.3278. A 9mm pistol with magazine and 3 live ammunitions of 9mm were recovered from his possession, it said.
In another incident, a team of the Imphal west district police commandos claimed to have arrested a cadre of the proscribed UNLF this evening at around 4:20 pm from Naoremthong Bazar, informed a statement from a senior SP of the district.
The individual has been identified as one Ton alias Langwonba alias Lemba, 22, s/o (L) Naba Meitei of Lairembi Mamang Leikai.
It said, on spot verification, he disclosed that he joined the outfit in 2009 through one S/S Corpl. Yoiheiba and received basic military training in eastern Nagaland. He had functioned under one S/S Lt. Telheiba of the outfit.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the PRO IGAR (S) said troop of 29 Assam Rifles apprehended four Myanmarese nationals this afternoon around 1:30 pm while conducting an operation in the general area of Sita track junction.
The individuals were identified as Md. Sohiab, 24 yrs, s/o Md. Hushan of Kotaw, PS Bayenao, Div Taninthai; Md. Yunus, 24 yrs, s/o, Md. Yasin of Membu, PO/PS Membu, Div Makoi; Md. Faruque, 25 yrs, s/o Md. Aboul Kudus of Suigong, PO/PS Suigong Div Kaizeng and Abdul Wahab, 25 yrs, s/o Prakat Ali of Tataw, PO/ PS Tataw Dist Mandalay. They were handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station, it further said.
