World population day speakers emphasis on importance of family planning


IMPHAL July 18: As a part of the observation of World population day, District Health Mission Society Imphal- west today organized the population stabilization fortnight (July 11 to 24) with the theme small family, overall development. The function was held at the Urban Hospital situated at Singjamei.

IMC chairperson N. Raghumani, councilor ward no. 16 M. Subhaschandra, chief medical officer Imphal west S. Binokumari devi graced the function as chief guest, president and guest  of honour respectively.

Dr. Kh. Usha, DFWO Imphal west while giving her key note address emphasized on the importance of family planning in order to reduce consequent issues arising from the increasing population. She also emphasized the need to spread awareness on various health issues faced by many young mothers and pointed out the need to be more health conscious especially during pregnancy.

She added that the socio economic condition of a family is adversely affected when any members of a family falls ill. So, to lead a happy and healthy family, one need to adopt a small family which will subsequently help in bringing overall development in the family, she added.

Further during her speech, she said that the society is observing two fortnights as part of the World Population Day observation. The 1st one is called Mobilization fortnight or also known as awareness that was held from June 27 to July 10 while the 2nd fortnight is called activity fortnight which started from July 11 and will continue till July 24. During this mobilization fortnight awareness campaigns were held relating to family planning and other related issues at various places in the state while the activity fortnight deals in providing materials and treatment in matters relating to family planning that includes distribution of condoms, laparoscopic vasectomy, etc, she said. She added that the function which was held today will also be organized in other parts of the state in their respective community health centers and primary health centers.
