IMPHAL, Sept 26: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Manipur submitted a memorandum addressing the President of India through the Governor of Manipur this afternoon.
The BJP representatives who met with the Governor was led by party president SH Shantikumar.
In the memorandum, the BJP mentioned that the state is passing through hard times since August 1 due to the economic blockade imposed by the Sadar Hills Districthood Demand Committee (SHDDC) and the counter economic blockade imposed by the United Naga Council (UNC) along both the National Highways.
Essential commodities like petroleum products and life saving drugs are not adequately available. However, the state government has failed to face the situation and is dealing the issue half-heartedly, leaving the the problem to solve by itself thereby creating an alarming situation amongst the people of the state, it said.
Citing the hardships that the people had to face due to the blockades, the BJP draws the attention of the President to intervene to ensure adequate availability of essential commodities including petroleum products, to ban black marketing and to take legal action against the faulty stockists and black marketers of petroleum products.
They also demanded special subsidy of Rs 5,000 per month be given to each family of the state to compensate the lost incurred by the family during the economic blockade starting from the day the blockade was imposed till the blockade is called off and to bring an amicable solution regarding the Sadar Hills issue at the earliest.
SH Shantikumar, told media persons outside the Governors’ bungalow after the meeting with the Governor that the prevailing chaotic situation has been created by the incompetency of the present state government.
He said that the tension of blockade and counter blockade has escalated unabatedly and is threatening the communal harmony of the state.
He suggested the present government to step down for it has failed to govern properly and imposed the President Rule in the state in the interest of the people.
The BJP president while showing his disgust with the recent price list of essential commodities prepared by the government declared that the list is not relevant with the present situation in the state.
He further added that the price list could have prepared under a bonding between the bazaar board and the government
He further condemned the government’s plan to conduct the ADC election of the 10 pending district council constituencies under Senapati and Ukhrul amidst such situation in the state.
While criticizing the government for the ADC election plan, he added “Moreover the government could hardly make preparations to established offices for the already elected ADC members at their respective constituencies.”
Meanwhile, Sunil Deodhar, convenor, North East India Samparak Cell, BJP is arriving in the state capital to take account of the prevailing situation in Manipur.
