IMPHAL, September 29: A heavy security team comprising of Thoubal district commandos, IRB and personnel of Chandel police, this morning escorted more than a hundred vehicles along the Imphal Moreh highway from Pallel to Moreh.
More than 135 vehicles, including trucks, Tata Sumo, Van and passenger buses were escorted upto Moreh border town with a one time entry at Pallel Police station this morning without any reports of disturbances in the movements of vehicles by the blockade supporters.
It may be mentioned that, normal services of transportation along the Imphal-Moreh road have been interrupted since the last 39 days following the imposition of counter economic blockade launched by the Nagas of Chandel district under the aegis of CNPO while extending their solidarity to the ongoing counter economic blockade launched by the UNC along the national highways of the state against the demand for a separate Sadar Hills district.
Meanwhile, the incident of damaging vehicles and injuring one TATA Sumo driver at Thamnapokpi by the blockade supporters along the Imphal Moreh road on September 23 evening had brought another imposition of general strike along this road by the All Manipur Tansporters’, Drivers’ and Motor Workers’ Union and the JAC Imphal-Moreh Transporters which had only worsen the situation.
However the general strike was lifted since yesterday following assurance from the DGP to provide full proof security along the road.
Turning the assurance into work, several vehicles had been lined up along the entry point at Pallel this morning and taken up to Moreh with security.
Meanwhile, the vehicles will be escorted back to the Imphal tomorrow after making them to have one entry at Moreh police check point tomorrow morning, the source added.
