IMPHAL, September 29: The representatives of four different social organizations have given their statements at the third hearing of District Re-organization Committee held today under the chair of state chief secretary at the Old Secretariat Complex, Imphal.
The organizations were Social Advance Movement, NGO Kakching, Joint Representative of Loys and District Sports Association and one organization from Chingai which was represented by AS Arthur.
The representatives of NGO Kakching and Joint Representative of Loys and District Sports Association have expressed the need for re-organizing Thoubal district in view of its large area.
On the other hand, Social Advance Movement pressed the authorities concerned not to reorganize the districts of the state based on ethnicity or community.
AS Arthur stated that the state government should maintain the district and village boundaries as per the Manipur District Reorganization held from 1947 to 1949.
So far 15 different social organizations out of 60 petitioners have given their statements before the District Reorganization Committee chaired by the state chief secretary.
The next hearing will be held on October 8, 2011.
