IMPHAL, Sept 26: The 60th death anniversary of Hijam Irabot was observed by Hijam Irawat Memorial Charitable Trust today at Manipur College, Imphal.
The observation was attended by Leishembe Sanajaoba, titular King of Manipur, Prof N Iboton, dean of Central Agricultural University, and Dr Kh Jayentakumar, Principal of Manipur College as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the observation function, Leishemba Sanajaoba stated that Hijam Irabot was a great Manipuri pioneer in many fields including journalism, sports, literature, art and culture. He had worked with utmost dedication to uplift the Manipuri society.
Sanajaoba appealed to the people to follow the footsteps of Hijam Irabot and bring forth the Manipuri society towards peace, progress and development.
The Hijam Irabot Memorial Awards were also presented during the observation.
O Kuber was conferred the HIM Award for education, Kshetri Ibohal for theatre, Laishram Samarendra for literature, AK Sanaton for journalism, Kh Mangi for culture, Laishram Naba for sports and A Jugindro for agriculture.
The HIM Student Idol Award, 2011 was conferred to Sadokpam Srikanth of Herbert School while 18 students from various schools received the consolation prizes.
Meanwhile, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Manipur State Committee also observed the 60th death anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irawat on Monday at the Gandhi Memorial Hall located in Imphal.
As part of the observation of the anniversary, the 10th state level patriotic song competition organized by the SFI, Manipur State Committee was also held at the said venue.
B. Jayentakumar Sharma, renowned lyricist, vice president SFI/MSC, S.M. Zakir Ali and other dignitaries including associate prof. Dr. Chinglen Maisnam, Meitram Samu associate of Irawat, Sarat Salam, former president, SFI and other leading personalities of the students’ federation attended the inaugural function of the death anniversary. Many enthusiasts, well-wishers and school students from various institutes of the state were also present during the function.
More than 30 students took part in the state level patriotic song competition.
Similar observation was also celebrated by the CPI state unit at Irawat Bhavan Imphal, this morning. The 60th death anniversary observation held at Irawat Bhavan was attended by M. Ibohal Singh, chairman Control Commission, MSC/CPI, State Agriculture Minister, P. Parijat Singh, Dr. M. Nara, state secretary, MSC/CPI, N. Mangi Singh, MLA, Chairman, MANIDCO and other official members of MSC/CPI.
After paying tribute to the portrait of Hijam Irawat, the delegates praised the contributions made by Irawat that initiated in bringing social changes in the state.
