IMPHAL, October 5: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the centre and the Manipur government of failing to prevent the rise in prices of essential commodities, stated a press release of the BJP Manipur Pradesh.
Party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said “The union home ministry together with the state ministers in Manipur have not even uttered a word as to why they have failed in reaching the essential supplies to the people of Manipur where this blockade is creating havoc”, it further stated.
“We hold the Congress government in Manipur and the UPA here completely responsible in treating Manipur in this kind of a ham-handed way. Manipur is a part of India”.
“They are our citizens as much as you and I are. They have no business to neglect them like this. We immediately demand action be taken. First of all, relief be reached out and people sit and talk about how to lift this blockade which is now on its 60th day I understand,” she said, quoted the release.
It has further stated that the blockade has resulted in the cutting of the main route of supply for essential commodities to the state via Nagaland, and this has in turn led to an abnormal rise in pries of commodities in the state.
“The economic blockade was called by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) on August 1 and a counter blockade was called by the United Naga Council on August 21”.
“Leaders of SHDDC have vowed to continue their agitation for the creation of a separate Sadar Hills District until the government caves in to their demands”, it added.
However, several organisations have opposed the creation of the new district as it includes some ethnic Naga-settled areas, it ended.
