IMPHAL, October 14: Senior opposition leader O Joy Singh today blasted the Naga People’s Front as a communal party and further stated that the main objective of the NPF’s entry into Manipur is only to disturbed the territorial integrity of the state.

He further declared that the Manipur People’s Party is all set to take legal action against the party.

He further argued upon how the Election Commission of India recognized such a communal party and allowed its entry into the state of Manipur.

The MPP MLA was speaking to mediapersons after inaugurating a Ningol Chakkouba festive fair at the Naorem Leikai community hall under Langthabal constituency.

“The NPF has managed to establish itself starting at Senapati district of the state, while the state government has been left as just mere bystanders. The party will now send out its candidates in the coming 10th general election”.

He further informed that if any of the NPF candidates get elected to the 10th state assembly, the ensuing state assembly will be a complicated one.

Further elaborating on the issue, he stated that NPF candidates will try to bring all Naga inhabited areas under a single unit and try to disintegrate the territorial integrity of the state on communal lines and as such the result of the 10th general assembly will be very crucial for the unity of the state.

The Election Commission of India is yet to recommend the proposal of the NPF to amend a clause of Article X of the party’s constitution which states that the primary membership of the party will be available to citizens of Nagaland and to change it to all citizens of India, he informed the mediapersons.

He also informed that the Article II (2) (c) of the NPF’s constitution which is its aims and objective states that “to work for unity and integrity of the people by integrating all contiguous Naga inhabited areas under one administrative roof and also to provide protection to all the ethnic groups who are indigenous inhabitants of the state”.

Citing the two articles from the NPF’s constitution, he has questioned if it is right for the ECI to recognize such a party and if it is right to form a communal based political party in a democratic and secular country like India.

He has further stated that anyone with any concern for the territorial integrity of Manipur should distance themselves from such a communal party as the NPF.

Meanwhile in answer to MPCC president Gaikhangam’s claim that there is no opposition party in the state assembly today, O Joy has further stated that the MPP and other opposition parties have been opposing more than 80 percent of all motions/bills/resolutions which are brought up by the ruling coalition in the state assembly.

The fair which was inaugurated by O Joy Singh has 35 stalls selling various items in relation to the coming Ningol Chakkouba festival.

The inaugural function was also attended by T Rajen general manager district industry centre and M Rajen OSD handloom as president and guest of honour.
