IMPHAL, Oct 3: The district magistrate Imphal west district in an order has prohibited the sale and use of crackers under sub-section (S) 144, Cr.P.C 1973, in connection with the ensuing Durga Pujah and Laxmi Pujah festivals, 2011 in the district with immediate effect.
The order stated that the prohibition was imposed following police reports of likelihood of causing serious annoyance in the minds of the general public in view of the volatile law and order situation in the district if there is no control/ban on sale and use of crackers in the district during the ensuing festivals.
It said that such confusion and annoyance may result in serious breach of peace, disturbances of public tranquility and danger to human lives and properties and imposition of the prohibition has become expedient to prevent any untoward incidents.
It further said, there is emergency and circumstances do not permit the serving in due time of the notice upon the public.
