AMSU shows concern with ushrooming private schools and its exorbitant fees

IMPHAL, Dec 27: Expressing strong concern over the mushrooming of private schools and high expenses in school education in the state, the All Manipur Students’ Union has asked the Manipur government to enact an act which could cover private educational institutions.  In a statement, the apex students body said private educational institutions in the state are charging abnormally high admission and tuition fees which has cause severe headeache for financially weak parents and guardians.

Stating that there are no acts in the state which covers the private educational institutions, the AMSU said the Manipur Education Code, 1985 do not cover private educational institutions.

This has led private institutions to hike admission fees and tuition fees whenever they like, the AMSU statement said adding establishment of new private schools has become a big business in the state unlike in other states of the country.

The student body also appeal the concerned authorities of the government to look and take up immediate action against private educational institutions which are hiking admission fees and tuition fees at their wish.
