IMPHAL, December 8: “Even after repeated appeals were made to cease any further encroachment activities in and around the Chawangkining village, there has been recent reports of some neighboring Kuki village creating provocative situation by resuming encroachment.
Calling the development disturbing, the Naga People’s Organization (NPO) expressed unhappiness over the report of more encroachments attempts made by some elements through provocative activities in the said sensitive area” stated a press release of the Naga People’s Organization signed by its president ML Markson.
The NPO in the general interest of all communities and considering the prevailing situation has called for immediate intervention of Kuki organizations like Kuki Inpi, SHDDC and KSO to look into the matter to amicably resolve the contentious issue, the release further added.
It has further informed that earlier, the NPO along with other frontal Naga bodies had made physical spot inquiries of the alleged encroachments by some Kukis in the Chawangkining village. Disturbed by such unwanted incidents at the backdrop of the present situation of the Sadar Hills issue, it has demanded immediate stopping of all activities in the disputed area before bringing any resolution to the issue, but some recent reports have stated that, some villagers from the neighboring village has started construction activities thus angering the Naga body, it further added.
The organization has as such asked the state government machinery through the concerned district and block administration to immediately conduct spot inquiry and implement necessary orders to avert any form of confrontations, the release further added.
“With the probability of creating communal flare up due to the issue, it is best demanded that the state government address the situation without further delay. Failure to respond positively, any untoward incident caused by the growing tensions over the matter will be sole responsible of the state government” it added.
Further, the NPO as per a collective decision taken during the UNC presidential meeting to continue the one hour public curfew in all Naga hill districts for demand of alternative arrangement, has also sought the co-operation and support of the Senapati general public for the smooth implementation of the said curfew, the release added.
