IMPHAL, December 29: During the period of January to December 28, 2011, the Thoubal district police have conducted several counter insurgency operations within and outside the jurisdictions of Thoubal district and in other states of the country with major achievements, informed Thoubal SP S Jayenta, IPS during a press conference at his office.
The district police and CDO have arrested at least 232 militants from both within the state and outside in several joint operations during the period. The arrested militants also include leaders of different underground groups operating in the state, the SP said and added at least 25 militants arrested by the district police have been booked under the NSA and many more are yet to be detained under this act.
The district police chief also said at least 76 weapons of different types and makes were recovered from the possession of arrested militants, and at least three UG cadres were killed during different encounters during the period.
Altogether 813 cases of different crimes were registered during the period out of which 205 cases have been closed though 608 cases are still pending, the SP said.
Only six police stations are working in the district but the remaining police stations and out-posts will also be functional once construction of infrastructural facilities are completed, the SP said adding operational capability of the district police will be strengthened once the remaining police stations are fully functional.
Thoubal district police have managed to bring major achievement in counter insurgency operations and other criminal cases due to active cooperation of the people, the SP said and further appeal the people to continue with their active support to the police.
