IMPHAL, Jan 27: Manipur is all set to go for the single-phase 10th Legislative Assembly Election tomorrow amidst tight security measures taken up by both state and central paramilitary forces.
A total of 17,40,576 voters (male-8,58,340 and female-8,82,236) will exercise their franchise in the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election tomorrow to elect 60 MLAs from among 279 candidates including 14 women of 17 different political parties.
The Indian National Congress (INC) has fielded its candidates in all the 60 Assembly Constituencies and the PDF (People’s Democratic Front), an alliance of Manipur People’s Party (MPP), NCP and JD (U) has also put up 45 candidates, the second largest number of candidates next to INC to be fought in this assembly polls.
In Imphal East, 59 candidates are vying for 11 seats in the state assembly. The total number of voters in this district is 2,81,595 (male-1,39,241 and female-1,42,355). It has 356 polling stations out of which 105 are normal, 181 are sensitive and 71 are hyper-sensitive.
In Imphal West, 64 candidates are in the fray for 13 assembly seats. The total number of voters in this district is 3,31,642 (male-1,63,416 and female-1,68,227). It has 391 polling stations out of which 21 are normal, 293 are sensitive and 77 are hyper-sensitive.
In Bishnupur, 28 candidates are contesting for six seats. The total number of voters in this district is 1,58,880 (male-77,213 and female-81,668). It has 196 polling stations out of which 97 are sensitive and 99 are hyper-sensitive.
In Thoubal, 39 candidates are contending for 10 seats in the state assembly. The total number of voters in this district is 2,61,316 (male-1,28,185 and female-1,33,132). It has 361 polling stations out of which 134 are sensitive and 227 are hyper-sensitive.
In Chandel, 14 candidates are contesting for two seats in this assembly election. The total number of voters in this district is 95,523 (male-46,428 and female-49,095). It has 131 polling stations out of which 34 are normal, 76 are sensitive and 21 are hyper-sensitive.
In Ukhrul, 14 candidates are in the fray for three seats. The total number of voters in this district is 98,753 (male-48,536 and female-50,217). It has 179 polling stations out of which 35 are sensitive and 144 are hypersensitive.
In Senapati, 20 candidates are contesting for six seats in the state assembly. The total number of voters in this district is 2,50,060 (male-1,25,856 and female-1,24,204). It has 323 polling stations out of which 218 are sensitive and 105 are hyper-sensitive.
In Tamenglong, 10 candidates are vying for three assembly seats. The total number of voters in this district is 78,072 (male-38,892 and female-39,180). It has 146 polling stations out of which 120 are sensitive and 26 are hyper-sensitive.
In Churachandpur, 31 candidates are contesting for six seats in the state assembly. The total number of voters in this district is 1,84,735 (male-90,575 and female-94,160). It has 273 polling stations out of which 171 are sensitive and 102 are hyper-sensitive.
Meanwhile, stringent security measures have been taken up all over the state to ensure smooth conduct of polls tomorrow.
All polling stations have been put under strict security surveillance to prevent any untoward incident during election. As many as 350 companies (42, 000 personnel) of Central paramilitary force, including police personnel from other states are being deployed for the state polls.
