IMPHAL, Jan 18 (NNN):  A worker at a brick-field was bludgeoned to death by masked men last night at Pheidinga near the inter-village road in Loitang Khunou under Sekmai police station of Imphal West district, police said on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Ayekpam Nabachandra, 55, son of  Iboton of Purul Likli Litanpokpi. The victim had been staying for a couple of years as a keeper at the brick field belonging to Elangbam Sunil, a resident of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai.

His neighbour Dhanmaya who has been staying near the brick field with her three children told the media that the masked assailants barged into Nabachandra’s house around 9 pm and asked him to arrange dinner for them which he refused, explaining them that the present brick field owner was a new one and not the old one after which they started thrashing him with sticks. The assaulters left the spot in a car leaving the victim in a pool of blood, said Dhanmaya’s daughter Maya.

She regretted that the victim could not be taken in time for medical aid to a hospital that night.

Ultimately, Nabachandra was rushed to the RIMS hospital at around 7 this morning, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.

A case has been registered at the Sekmai police station.
