Additional 350 companies of central paramilitary forces arrive for polls

IMPHAL, Jan 13: The district administrations have started intensifying security preventive measures following the initiation of the deployment of additional Central Para Military Forces and Central Police Auxiliary Police forces in their respective districts to ensure peaceful conduct of the ensuing 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election scheduled to be held on January 28 in all 60 Assembly Constituencies of the state.

The Election Commission of India, responding the request of the state Chief Electoral Officer for the deployment of 350 companies of additional forces for successful holding of the ensuing election, pledged to send external security forces to the state for deployment on election related duties.

A recent internal security meeting held in connection with the deployment of the security forces in all districts in view of the ensuing state assembly election had chalked out the numbers of companies of the security forces to be deployed.

According to a highly placed source, as per the decision taken during the recent meeting of the state government, 40 companies of CPMFs have already been deployed in the Churachandpur district, 30 companies of CPMFs in Ukhrul district, 50 companies of CPMFs in Senapati District, 30 companies of CPMFs in Tamenglong district, 20 companies of CPMFs in Chandel district, 10 companies each of CPMFs in Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal districts respectively since January 10.

Further the meeting also decided to deploy additional security forces CPMFs 10 companies each in Imphal East, Imphal Westa and Thoubal districts and 20 companies of the CPMF in Bishnupur district from January 15.

Further, considering the deteriorating law and order situations caused by activities of various undergrounds organisation against smooth conduct of the election process in the valley districts, the state government is considering enhancing deployment of additional CPMFs of 100 companies to be distributed in the four valley districts from January 24.

As per official report, a total of 284 companies of Central Para Military Forces including, 96 companies of Boarder Security Forces (BSF), 120 companies of Central Reserved Police Forces (CRPF), 20 companies of Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF), 30 companies of SSB and 8 companies of Railway Protection Force (RPF) along with 66companies of Central auxiliary Police Forces (CAPFs) including 6 companies from Arunachal Pradesh, 22 companies from Assam, 5 companies from Bihar, 6 companies from Mizoram, five companies from Orissa, 6 companies from Tripura and 16 companies of CAPFs from Jharkhand have already been arrived in the state and their deployment and direct induction for election related duties to other districts are in progress, the source added.
