AR to hold inter community peace and harmony meet

IMPHAL, Jan 18:  As part of military civic action programme undertaken by 33 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Loktak Brigade of Red Shield Division an inter community peace and harmony meet is being organized at Moirang from January 20-25 coinciding with Republic Day cerlebration. The event is aimed at fostering peace and harmony amongst the various communities of Manipur by promoting sports and culture and also show-case the varied culture of Manipur, the a release from IG AR (South). As part of the meet, Loktak Brigade Republic Day football tournament, 2012 is also being organized from January 20-25 at Moirang College and Moirang Multipurpose High School football ground. As many as 12 football clubs from various parts of Bishnupur and Noney are participating in the event, it added.

On the final day of the tournament,  the rich customs, culture, traditions and ethnic diversity with their uniqueness will be showcased by troupes from various communities of Manipur. The security forces will also showcase their own skills in pipe and brass band.

The event will be kicked off on January 20 by Colonel N Bhardwaj, Commandant 33 Assam Rifles at Moirang College. During the inaugural function, sports items under Military Civic Action Programme worth Rs 1,50,000 will be distributed to various sports clubs  of Thanga Heisnam, Keibul Lamjao, Konumla, Kamlakhong and Moirang Khunou falling under the area of responsibility of 33 Assam Rifles, it added.
