IMPHAL, January 3: A state high committee meeting headed by the chief secretary has instructed all heads of state departments including the state home department to intensify their preparations for the ensuing election.
According to a source, the chief secretary had tabled during the meeting various issues which have been left out by the state departments and central security forces in their preparation for the ensuing election even after prior instruction.
The source has added that the committee after reviewing the preparations taken up by the departments found the preparations to be unsatisfactory and as such instructed the concerned departments to expedite their preparations.
The issues which are yet to be taken up include the maintenance of adequate essential items in the state including petroleum products by the FA&CD; district communication plan which should be taken up by the BSNL Manipur sector; printing of ballot paper by govt press; uninterrupted power supply by power department; arrangement for setting up and maintenance of media centres/announcing centres by the IPR and telecom facilities by BSNL, water supply arrangement in all DEOs and screening of leave applications by the health department, the source informed.
The chief secretary was however satisfied with the preparations taken up by the transport department regarding the requisition of vehicles for the ensuing election and the steps taken up by the state home department regarding the extensive security preventive measures imposed in the state to prevent any untoward incidents and the timely submission of the daily law and order report to the chief election officer, the source added.
The chief secretary also advised the official representatives of the central para military forces, AR and the army to extend their support in sensitizing and securing all the routes leading to the polling statio
