IMPHAL, Jan 23: CorCom has warned of higher degree of violence on supporters of Congress party, more lethal than the bomb blast it carried out at the residence of Singjamei Congress candidate I Hemochandra yesterday evening in which one person died and another four were injured.

While expressing regrets at the loss of live and injuries caused to Congress workers, a press release issued today by CorCom reminded that prior warnings were given in plenty to the people to dissociate themselves from the Congress party through the media and pamphlets in order to avoid unwanted incidents from happening. More lethal attacks than the one yesterday should be expected if the public does not heed its warnings, it added.

CorCom further reiterated its three-point appeal to the public.

Foremost, it urged the public not to canvass support or participate in house campaigns for the Congress candidates and asked sections of the meira paibi to immediately stop the misuse of their position in order to secure the party’s candidate or stage protest in their favor.

Secondly, the party announced it will punish anybody anytime before or after the th assembly elections if he functions as a worker or polling agent or sets up polling station or distributes money for the party.

Thirdly, independent candidates or those of political parties should not form alliance with the party before or after the elections. Neither shall they ally with the Congress in the formation of the next government in the state. Those who disregard its appeal will face similar ban from CorCom like the Congress has undergone, it stated.

The militants group perceives the January 28 election as a process to identify the people of the state who wish to sell out Manipur to India, the statement said. CorCom will conclude the presence of people who can selfishly hand over Manipur to India for a price in those constituencies where Congress candidates emerge victorious. CorCom will specifically spot out such constituencies to make them the target of its attacks, it said.
