IMPHAL, January 15: The 9th edition of the DGAR cup State Equestrian Championship and the 3rd IGAR (south) Junior Equestrian Championship was kick off today in a glittering inaugural ceremony at the Polo ground, Imphal. In all 12 teams containing over 94 riders in senior, junior and young girl’s category from 9 different esteemed clubs are participated in the championship.
Major General UK Gurung, YSM, IGAR (S) who graced the inaugural function as chief guest, said that it was an opportune moment to meet all the riders and the sports enthusiast from different sections of the society. He also added that the championship is aimed at encouraging the game of Polo and Equestrian to discover hidden talents in a sport which is said to have originated from the state of Manipur.
The inaugural function of the championship was also attended by Dr S Joykumar, president, Manipur Equestrian Association, Brigadier Navneet Kumar, commander 9 sectors AR and Dr. Th. Jeevan Singh, director, veterinary and animal husbandry services.
The function showcased the rich and varied cultural heritage of the state with traditional reception and Pot-Lanba. The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by March Past of the participating team led by piper band 30 Assam Rifles.
The release further said that the Equestrian events are scheduled in a span of 4 days and include events like Tent Pegging (Team), Tent Pegging (individual) in senior and junior categories with individual show jumping in all the three categories.
