IMPHAL, January 4: All contesting candidates of the 10th Manipur Assembly election cutting across parties will be liable to submit their incomes and assets statement before the income tax team that has been in the state since yesterday, as part of the ECI’s step to monitor the election in the state.
According to an official source, a team of 55 Income tax officials from different states has already been stationed in the state since yesterday as preliminary election observers.
Further according to the source, the team has further been divided into teams and accorded with their respective jurisdictions. The teams will monitor the assets and incomes of the contesting candidates.
The teams have been instructed to start their activities regarding monitoring of the assets and incomes of the candidates soon after the candidates start filling their nominations.
The candidates should submit their incomes and assets statement before the poll on January 28 and on failure to do so, the nominations of the concerned candidate could be cancelled, the source added.
Meanwhile, according to another source, the Chief Election Commissioner SY Qureshi will arrive at the state capital on January 5 for a two day visit to monitor the preparation of the election process of the state.
The source also added that he will convened a meeting of all heads of state departments and other dignitaries from neighbouring states of Assam, Mizoram and Nagaland. The visiting dignitaries are DGPs, CEOs of Nagaland, Mizoram and Assam. The visiting dignitaries will also include chief secretaries of Nagaland and Assam.
The visiting dignitaries will share the election preparations undertaken in the state by the state departments.
Meanwhile, a reliable source has informed that the state government has already sent around 300 trucks and buses to Dimapur this morning to collect the companies of security forces provided by the centre for deployment in the state during the election process.
