SoO militant leaders told to keep cadres inside their designatd camps

IMPHAL, Jan 12: As per the directives from the centre the meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group which is dealing the tripartite talks with the Kuki militant groups after signing Suspension of Operation (SoO) has directed the concerned leaders of the Kuki outfit under SoO to make their cadres remain indoor inside their maintained designated camps during the process of the election in the state.

According to an official source, the meeting of JMG was held on January 3 at the 1st MR Banquet hall with the chaired by state Chief Secretary DS Poonia and attended by Dr. MC Mehenathan, Director NE-I, of MHA, representing Government of India, state IGP Intelligence, officials of Assam Rifles, Army CRPF and BSF.

The meeting discussed the possibilities of violent activities by the cadres of the Kuki militants who are under the SoO if they are not properly controlled and kept under strict supervision during ensuing election process in the state.

The meeting also decided to intensify security related activities on restrictions on the movements of the cadres of Kuki militants from their respective camps which are still under the security supervision of the IGAR (South) and to instruct the concerned leaders of the militants to keep their weapons locked inside their designated camps during the process of election in the state added an official source.

The meeting further resolved to instruct the concerned security forces to confiscate and immediately destroying arms and ammunitions recovered from the any Kuki militants who are loitering or moving out from their designated camps violating official instructions.

It further resolved that the security forces under the IGAR should conduct frequent and sudden inspections inside the maintained designated camps in every interval of 3-4 days so as to prevent any un-authorize movements of cadres from their respective camps during the process of the election in the state.

It may be mentioned that, with the signing of  SoO agreement with the  Kuki militants and government, altogether 12 designated camps were open and kept under protections of the IGAR which includes designated camps of Chongkho Zou,  New Phaisat, Mongbung, Phaibung, S Nabin, New Taikot and Angkhoruo in Churachandpur district. Besides designated camp at T Gamnom, Nathanjang and Samushang in Senapati and Chelap and Mual Vaiphei designated camps in Chandel district are still in operation.

It may also be recalled that, the current restrictions of the movement of the Kuki militants under the SoO during the process of the election in the state might be due to the strong instructions from the Election Commission of India as part of preventing measures to prevent any forms of direct and indirect involvement of any militant groups to the affairs of ensuing elections of the state, the source added.  

In the meantime, state government has sent official action taken report in this regard to the MHA today, the official source added.
