Truck skids down gorge, kills BSF personnel on election duty

IMPHAL, January 11: A Tata truck carrying BSF personnel for election duty met with an accident killing one personnel and injuring seven others at Kabuilong village in Tamenglong district this morning.

The incident happened this morning when one of the trucks carrying personnel of 70 BSF from Agartala on election duty at Tamenglong district skidded and fell down a gorge along the IT road this morning at around 9am.

Eight of the personnel were injured during the accident, while three of them were reported to be in critical conditions, one succumbed on the way to the hospital.

The dead personnel has been identified as PK Talukdar, 45 of West Bengal while the critically injured personnel have been identified as Anil Kumar, s/o Prem of Haryana, Havildar Haranath, 43, of West Bengal and K Murali, 31 of Tamil Nadu.

Of the three critically injured, Murali is presently inside the Intensive Care Unit of JNIMS.

According to a reliable source, the four critically personnel including the one who succumbed on the way to the hospital were airlifted from the Tamenglong district hq using two army helicopters. They were further rushed to JNIMS from the Kangla helipad. Meanwhile, the other personnel with minor injuries were treated at the Tamenglong Primary Health Sub Centre.
