IMPHAL, Jan 25: The National Voters’ Day was widely observed in the state today under the aegis of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP).

The state level observation was held at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT) with chief electoral officer PC Lawmkunga, election commissioner Y Rameshchandra and AMWJU president A Mobi as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

Addressing the gathering, election commissioner Rameshchandra stated that “voting right” should be valued most by the citizens. Every voter should cast vote and participate actively in the functioning of democracy.

He appealed to the voters to exercise their franchise sensibly without any influence of muscle and money power.

As a part of the observation, eminent Manipuri film actors presented a skit imparting voters’ education and electoral participation.

The prizes of state level essay and quiz competitions were also distributed on the occasion.

The National Voters’ Day was also observed in other districts of the state under the supervision of district election officers.

NCC cadets of Modern College and JNV, Yaralpat stage a rally on National Voters’ Day to create public awareness for free and fair organization of the ensuing assembly elections. 130 cadets participated in the rally organised at the behest of the Election Commission of India and flagged off by Captain Dr Oinam Ibopishak, associate NCC Officer at Modern College. Elsewhere, 350 cadets and 20 PI staff of No 1 (M) Air Sqn (Flg), NCC took out a rally for systematic voters’ education and electoral participation.
