IMPHAL, Feb 23: The Election Commission of India is yet to take a final decision regarding repoll in Manipur, even as non-Congress parties continue to step up its anti-repoll campaign.
According to informed sources, today also the Commission weighed different options in the backdrop of Manipur CEO’s report on photo comparison in 523 polling stations. However, top officials of the state election department were not available for comments.
The sources added, although repoll seems to be the only viable option the Commission has to take into account the availability of adequate security personnel and other logistics. Security would not have been a consideration if polling stations headed for repoll is of less number.
It may be recalled here that, non-Congress parties have expressed their opposition to a unilateral decision by the Commission. They have even demanded an audience with the full Commission in Imphal.
However, the sources ruled out a visit of the Commission before announcing its decision.
