IMPHAL, Feb 1: Janata Dal (United), Manipur has expressed discontentment over the exclusion of three polling stations of Chandel assembly constituency in the re-poll scheduled on February 4 while alleging the SoO signatory UKLF of interfering in the election proceedings in favour of the Congress candidate.
Addressing media persons today at the party head-office, JD (U) state president M Tombi stated that the party has urged the Election Commission of India to conduct re-poll in three polling stations of Chandel assembly constituency, namely 41/59-Joupi, 41/36-Sugnu Tribal and 41/63-Hengshi. However, these polling stations were left out in the list of 34 polling stations for re-poll.
There was much interference from the UG groups in the election proceedings in these three polling stations. The authorities concerned should take strict action against those persons who had colluded with the militants to win the election.
Chandel JD (U) candidate Chungjalen Haokip stated that the government should look into the activities of UKLF who have been threatening the villagers to vote for the Congress candidate.
He also demanded the authorities to book the culprits involved in the poll interference.
