Man killed in Tata Magic mishap

IMPHAL, Feb 16 (Newmai News Network): At least one person was killed and 11 others injured when a Tata Magic van they were traveling in collided with a speeding truck along National Highway 39 at Ushoipokpi Chaopok Lamkhai under Lilong police station in Thoubal district, in the early morning Thursday.

The accident happened at around 6:30 am when an Imphal-bound passenger Tata Magic van had a head-on collision with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction from Imphal along the Imphal-Moreh road section of Ushoipokpi, killing one passenger on the spot and wounding another 11, a police source said.

The injured were shifted to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for medical treatment.

The dead passenger has been identified as Thangjam Pishak, 35 while the injured persons have been identified as Paka Thokchom, 46, Khogen Singh,31, Md Satar,35, Md Zakir Hussen, 24, Wahengbam Bina, 45, Akoijam Ajit Singh, 25, Achou and his wife Ganga Devi, 20, Md Fazal,40 and his brother Md Salim,45, Md Abdula, 40 and Khulakpam Ibochouba, 50.

Reports said some of the injured have been discharged after receiving first-aid and while some have been referred to other hospitals.

A case has also been registered with the Lilong police station in connection with the road mishap, police added.
