IMPHAL, Feb 3: 34 polling stations across 11 constituencies in five hill districts will witness fresh voting tomorrow after EC countermanded the polling that took place there with the rest of the state on January 28.
Al the polling stations undergoing by-poll have been declared hypersensitive and security cover heightened in order to preclude re-occurrence of violence and unlawful intervention in the electioneering process. The polling and security personnel along with electioneering material departed for their assigned locations from the respective district headquarters today.
The polling stations where by-poll will be held are 41/23, 41/27, 41/31 and 41/40 in Chandel AC; and 42/8, 42/50, 42/58 and 42/60 in Tegnoupal AC; both of Chandel district; 45/41, 45/44, 45/45, 45/46, 45/49, 45/50, 45/54, 45/56 and 45/57 in Chingai AC of Ukhrul district; 48/22 in Mao AC; 49/15, 49/16, 49/17, 49/18, 49/19, 49/21 and 49/22 in Tadubi AC; both of Senapati district; 52/41 in Tamei AC; 53/3 and 53/22 in Tamenglong AC; and 54/9 in Nungba AC; all of Tamenglong district; 55/1 and 55/29 in Tipaimukh AC; 56/3 and 56/8 in Thanlon AC; and 57/36 in Henglep AC, all of Churachandpur district.
The state government has announced public holiday in all its offices, educational institutes, private sector undertakings and other establishments where the polling stations are located. Also, employees of government offices as well as private sector undertakings serving in other part of the state but resident of the 34 polling stations have been allowed special casual leave for the day.
PT Pongener has been appointed as observer for Chandel district, Harsh Prakash for Ukhrul district, PS Kanunjana for Senapati district, Dinabandhu Naskar for Tamenglong district and Divakar Chakarvarty for Churachandpur district.
AK Roy will be the police observer for Chandel and Ukhrul districts, N Sridhar Rao for Senapati district, Deshraj Singh for Tamenglong district and Mahendra Pratap for Churachandpur district.
The general observers for Chandel district, Ukhrul district, Senapati district, Tamenglong district and Churachandpur district are NR Gadre, S Shuhali Ali, Rakesh Kumar Verma, Pandhri Yadhav and Pankaj Kumar respectively.
Meanwhile, four phone lines-2440042, 2440060, 2440067 and 2440068- have been opened at the control room of the chief electoral officer to receive feedbacks during the polling tomorrow.
