IMPHAL, Feb 26 (NNN):  Naga intellectuals and public leaders carried out a brain storming session on a topic “A dialogue on the concept of shared sovereignty in Indo-Naga context” on February 25 and 26 at Ukhrul.

The programme was organised by Naga Solidarity Group (NSG).

Intellectuals from Nagaland also participated at the two-day event.

The programme was divided into four sessions where participants engaged in interaction and discussion on the term `shared sovereignty`.

One of the scholars from Nagaland said the concept of shared sovereignty was first suggested to the Nagas by none other than Mahatma Gandhi. The Naga scholar quoted Mahatma Gandhi as saying, “Give Nagaland to India and I will give India to Nagaland.” The scholar however said that Mahatma though, did not use the term `shared sovereignty` at that time. AZ Phizo had supported this stand of Mahatma Gandhi, according to the scholar.

Meanwhile, at the end of the programme, the participants demonstrated their support to the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks and urged the both the parties to expedite the peace talks.
