IMPHAL, March 13: State chief secretary, DS Poonia alongwith Congress legislator, Mangibabu on Wednesday flagged off the first Indo-Myanmar car rally from Hotel Imphal. Altogether 21 cars comprising of government officials, entrepreneurs, and journalists left Imphal for Myanmar on Tuesday on a 9-day long journey and is expected to cover over 4000kms passing through major parts of Myanmar.
The Indo-Myanmar car rally is organized by the North East Federation on International Trade (Nefit) under the sponsorship of Union ministries of external affairs and home affairs and Assam, Manipur and Nagaland governments.
Speaking on the objective of the rally, principal secretary of commerce and industry of Manipur, O Nabakishore said the rally is aimed to foster the bilateral relation between India and Myanmar besides improving trade relation, culture exchange.
In the meantime, the team will interact with traders and put up road shows in Myanmar.
IFP group editor, Pradip Phanjoubam is also taking part in the car rally.
