IMPHAL, March 14: Speculations are ripe on who would be the new Speaker of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly. The name of Protem Speaker Laishram Nandakumar Singh is doing the rounds, with him being a senior legislator and former lawyer, according to informed sources.
The sources further said, former Speaker and representative of Singjamei Assembly constituency is not too keen on continuing in the post.
Meanwhile in a notification issued by the Secretary of the Assembly Y Indira Devi today, elections to the post of the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly will be held on March 19 at 10am, as fixed by the State Governor Gurbachan Jagat. According to the Assembly notification, nominations to the post of Speaker will be received upto 3 pm of March 17, 2012.
On the other hand, the Governor has summoned the first session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly on March 19 at 2 pm at the new premises of the state assembly in the new Capitol complex.
