IMPHAL, March 27: The Chief Minister has announced that pugilists Mary Kom and L Sarita Devi will be awarded with a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs each for their outstanding achievement.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the surrender ceremony of UTLA cadres today, Ibobi said that both boxers have exceeded themselves in the sport.
“They have time and again brought laurels for the state and the nation”, he said and added the decision was taken during a cabinet meet yesterday.
It may be mentioned that Sarita and Mary Kom bagged the two gold medals for the country at the 6th Asian Women’s Boxing championship held at Ulaanbaatar,Mangolia helping India to stand at the Runners up podium.
Meanwhile, Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Th Lokeshwor today congratulated Mary Kom and L Sarita who bagged Gold medals at the recent 6th Asian Boxing Championship held at Ulaanbatar in Mangolia.
Lauding the five times world champion Mary kom and 2006 world champion Sarita, the speaker said in a statement that Manipur has been made known to the world again by the two women boxers by securing Gold medals in the just concluded Asian Boxing championship.
Wishing the two boxers another successes in the coming championship event, Lokeshwor once again congratulated the two for bringing laurels to both the country and the state.
