IMPHAL, March 30: A two day state level workshop on Domestic Workers Welfare and Social Security Act and Suggested Measures was held at Manipur Press Club today.
The workshop was organized by Manipur Women Co-ordinating Council (MWCOC) under the sponsorship of National Commission for Women.
Speaking at the inaugural function chief guest and Keisamthong MLA Laishom Ibomcha said, there are various laws which are enacted for betterment of the people.
Citing acts regarding child labor and women empowerment, the MLA pointed that the acts need to be implemented properly by the concerned authorities.
“Norms against child labor are there, but we find children being hired in hotels and other places of manual work, those hiring children are liable to be booked under the law”, he said.
Ch Narendra Singh, former legal advisor of MSWC and A Bimola Devi, president of Manipur Women Co-ordinating Council was the guest of honor and president respectively at the inaugural function.
The technical session was chaired by M Sushilkumar (Retd. IPS).
N Meena, lecturer of Royal Academy of Law Oinam spoke on ‘Identifying Domestic Workers’. Advocate N Binodini, spoke on the ‘Welfare Measures under Domestic Workers’.
