2 killed in separate road mishaps

IMPHAL, April 24: Two persons including a handyman were killed in two separate road incidents that took place at Meriland under Nungba police station in Senapati district and another at Kakwa in Imphal West, police sources said.

A handyman of a Tata truck, bearing registration number AS-28/7460, was seriously wounded when the vehicle met with a road mishap at Meriland at around 5 pm yesterday.

He has been identified as Md Manijurul Islam Laskar, 18, son of Pakki Laskar, hailing from Uttarlal Pani of Jirighat in Cachar.

Manijurul succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

In another incident, a pedestrian was killed after being hit by a speeding motorcycle at Kakwa under Singjamei police station at around 6 pm yesterday.

The victim has been identified as Thongam Bijendro, 59, son of Gouro of Singjamei Sapam Leikai.

Bijendro was also shifted to Shija Hospitals but pronounced dead after a brief treatment.

Both the bodies have been handed over their families after conducting post mortems at RIMS.
