2 trucks burned in lightning

IMPHAL, Apr 27: Two cement-loaded trucks were completely destroyed in a fire reportedly caused by lightning, injuring one driver at Phulertol under Lakhimpur police station in Jiribam late night yesterday.

Police sources said the charred trucks belonged to one Chinglen, an agent of Star Cement from Lakhimpur. The loaded trucks were supposed to leave Jiribam for Imphal today along with a convoy of lorries, the sources added.

According to the owner, the Tata trucks caught fire in a lightning around 11:30 pm, but residents of the area believed the vehicles were blasted by unidentified miscreants after fitting bombs on them.

An incident of bomb explosion had occurred in the area before, sources said.
