IMPHAL, April 17: Acting on credible information, Imphal West District Police Commandos arrested one active member of PREPAK from the house of Konthoujam Jateshor Singh of Lamphel Awang Khunou today at around 5:10 am, a police statement said.
The person has been identified as Yumnam Kanhai Meetei alias Kiran Kumar alias Nanao, aged 31, (army no. 409) son of late Y Achoubi Singh of Takyel Kolom Leikai.
The police release said, Kanhai Meetei disclosed that he joined PREPAK in the year 2010 under the command of self-styled Sergeant Major Sanjoy Singh and received basic military training in the 40th batch.
Further he disclosed that he was earlier arrested by Imphal East commandos in the month of December 2011.
After release on bail, he again joined the group, the release added.
According to his statement he began working for CORCOM under one Abujam Lamphel alias Puremba of Changangei, self-styled Second Lieutenant of UNLF, in recruiting innocent youths for UG groups. It has also stated that recently they recruited one Aheibam Johnson, 16, son of (L) A Ebochou of Takyel Kolom Leikai and handed over to a group for basic training.
On follow up action, Abujam Lamphel Singh alias Puremba alias Shatrajit, 51, son of (L) A Tombi Singh of Changangei Mayai Leikai was picked up on the same day at about 6.20 am from his residence, it added.
Meanwhile, a team of CDO Imphal East district arrested one KYKL cade, identified as Laishram Bobo alias Suresh Meitei, 30, son of (L) L Shyamkesho Meitei of Tumukhong Awang Leikai from Khurai Lamlong (near Jenny Beauty Parlour) yesterday at around 9:45 am, acting on receiving a reliable information provided by 22 Grenadiers.
A release of SP Imphal East has stated that on verification, he disclosed that he joined KYKL in the year 1998 through one self-styled district commander Chaoba and was trained at Khoupum and he had extorted huge amount of money from the general public and government officials.
Further it has also stated that a combined team of CDO Imphal East and 23 Assam Riles arrested a PREPAK cadre on April 15 at around 10:30 am, identified as Laishram Nanao alias Biken Singh, 26, son of (L) L Babudhon Singh of Huidrom Mayai Leikai from Nongada Thongkhong.
On verification, he disclosed that he joined PREPAK organization in the year 2005 through one Kising of Huidrom and working under his command, he was involved in extortion of money from general public, goverment officials and businessmen etc. and transportation of arms and ammunition from one place to another, it added.
