IMPHAL, April 22: Security forces have arrested six alleged militants from the state in the last 36 hours.
22 Assam Rifles arrested one s/s sergeant major of the proscribed UNLF from Jiribam bazar on April 21 at 9:05am along with one 9mm pistol and a live round, informed a source.
The arrested militant suspect has been identified as Angom Premjit alias Athouba alias Raju, 30 son of Mangi of Tourbung Maning Leikai. The arrested militant suspect along with the arm has been handed over to the Jiribam police, the source added.
Meanwhile in another incident, the 22 AR apprehended two UNLF suspects along with one countrymade .32 pistol from Ningthempam, Jiribam on April 20.
The two identified as Longjam Tomchou, 44 son of Iboton of Ekou presently staying at Koirengei and Khaidem Mani, 38 son of Mohendro of Khabam Lamkhai have been handed over to the Jiribam PS, the source added.
Meanwhile, according to a release of the Imphal West police, a team of the district commands arrested one active member of the KCP (URF) from Kwakeithel bazar on April 20 at about 3pm.
The alleged militant has been identified as Laishram Raghumani alias Indra Meitei, 37 son of L Rashi Meitei of Yairipok Siphai Leikai.
On spot verification, he disclosed that he is working under one s/s Nawang of KCP (URF) since six months ago. He was assigned to serve demand letters and extortion of huge amount of money from the bazar areas and also to transfer the extorted money to Nawang of KCP (URP), the statement said.
One mobile handset was seized from his possession, it added.
Further according to the statement, on April 21 at about 1:30 pm, acting on a credible information, a combine team of CDOs lmphal West and Imphal East Districts arrested one active member of PLA/RPF from Keishamthong bridge identified as Meisnam Korouhanba Luwang alias Korou, 30 son of M Joychandra of Keishamthong Top Leirak.
On spot verification, he disclosed that he is working under one Hussain of PLA/RPF since the last five months and he had extorted money from various government departments as well as businessmen as percentage and transferred the same to Hussain of PLA/RPF for party fund, it added.
One mobile handset and Rs. 90,000/- were seized from his possession, the release added.
In yet another arrest made by the state police, on April 22, commandos of district police, Thoubal conducted search operation at Samaram Mamang Leikai and arrested one cadre of KYKL identified as Laimayum Imei alias Khingba, 27 son of L Nodiyachand Singh of Thoubal Nongangkhong at about 4 p.m, informed a press statement of the Thoubal SP.
