Fear of force arrest leads former militant to police custody

IMPHAL, April 18: Alleging that personnel of 22 Assam Rilfes, Tatbung in Jiribam were trying to forcibly take away a former militant, meira paibis of the area today handed over the said individual to the police station around 11:30am this morning.

The individual identified as Mayanglambam Basant, 35 son of (L) Dhiren of Uchathol a former PLA militant was earlier arrested by Imphal commandos. Soon after his release from jail he got married and had started leading a normal life.

Meanwhile, even as 22 Assam Rifles’ has been denying the arrest of a 34 year old individual, the man identified as Oinam Birjit, 34 son of Benimei of Jiribam IB returned home this evening following uproar from womenfolk of the area, informed a source.   ARRESTED: Meanwhile, according to a PRO release discovering the movement of UG cadres in Wangjing, troops of 15 AR of 9 sector and 42 AR of 26 sector under hq IGAR (S) launched an operation in the said area an apprehended one alleged UNLF cadre on April 18.

It has further added that one 9mm and three live rounds was recovered from the apprehendee identified as one s/s cpl Yendrembam Akupi alias Boitomba alias Ibohal, 26 son of Yendrembam Borajao resident of Lamding Cherapur.

The alleged militant alongwith the arms has been handed over to the Thoubal police, the statement informed.
