IMPHAL, April 27: The international seminar scheduled for 17-19 December 2012 on the theme ‘Asian Century: Challenges and Opportunities’ has been cancelled by the Indian Association of Asian and Pacific Studies, citing security reasons, according to a source in the association.
The seminar was to be organized by the Centre for Manipur Studies, Manipur University in collaboration with the Indian Association of Asian and Pacific Studies.
Scholars from all over Asia and Pacific countries, and Europe and America have already accepted to attend the Conference. Among the key persons is Sugata Bose, nephew of Netaji Bose and Professor at Harvard University, the sources said.
The reasons for cancelling the Imphal seminar include the ‘accident’ in which Professor Amar was seriously injured a few months back and the recent ransacking of Prof Amar Yumnam’s office in Manipur University.
