IMPHAL, April 23: The Bharatiya Janata Party, Manipur Pradesh and the Manipur People’s Party today also observed Khongjom Day at separate venues.
The MPP in a press statement has said that the party observed the day at its office with a simple ceremony. Floral tributes were made to the martyrs followed by a two minute silence.
The party’s flag also flew at half-mast during the observation, the statement added.
In a separate press release, the BJP, Manipur Pradesh has stated that the party also observed the day at its state office at Nityaipat Chuthek.
Meanwhile, the Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association also observed the day at its Irilbung complex.
Meanwhile, The Patriotic Writers’ Forum (PAWF) observed “Khongjom Lal Ningshing Thouram” at its auditorium Hall at New Checkon here on Monday.
The function, which was held in connection with the Khongjom Day observation, was presided over by noted writer B Jayentakumar.
Speaking on the occasion, Jayentakumar said now there are few people who possess the quality of sacrificial spirit for the society and this has really insulted our forefathers who made supreme sacrifices for the mother country.
He also said it would be wrong to interpret the real meaning of patriotism in easy way and that the concept of patriotism should be accompanied with the endeavor to bring the society forward.
